Sustainability

We believe the choices we make and those we avoid shape who we are.

The core value of Owlish Studio is sustainability. We choose to live with respect for the planet, society, and animals - without compromise.

In this fast-paced era of consumerism, it is our responsibility to create a conscious alternative to the fashion industry’s values. We bring our designs together with 100% vegan leather and ethical production practices. We are here to make a difference and to represent a new understanding of fashion.

Owlish Studio products are created for the discerning, style-conscious individuals who prioritize looking good and the well-being of all living beings. For those unwilling to compromise on style, we offer the freedom to choose sustainability.

Materials

Materials
___

At Owlish Studio, design begins with material selection. The products we create are made with innovative and aesthetic materials that are respectful to the planet, society, and animals, and entirely free from cruelty.

We choose our materials not only for their appearance but for the meaning they carry and the responsibility they represent. We closely follow advances in material technologies, striving to reach options that cause less harm and create greater value.

Vegan Leather

Vegan Leather
___

Vegan leather, the primary material of our products, offers a strong alternative to both animal leather and petroleum-based synthetics, as it involves no animal cruelty and has a significantly lower environmental footprint.

Next-generation plant-based vegan leathers are developed through extensive R&D efforts and long-term investments. These materials are not only eco-friendly but also durable and high-performing. Their chemical content is far lower compared to both animal and faux leather.

Animal leather, in addition to high carbon emissions, imposes a heavy environmental burden due to the intensive chemicals used in tanning and its excessive water consumption. Petroleum-based synthetics, on the other hand, harm the environment through chemical use and carbon emissions during production. By contrast, vegan leather emerges as an option that respects animal welfare, aligns with ethical values, and causes far less harm to the planet.

Oleatex®

Oleatex Logo

Oleatex is a plant-based, innovative material produced from olive oil production residues such as pomace and seeds. By turning waste into a valuable resource, it supports the circular economy and reduces our impact on the planet. Its innovative nature stands out not only for its environmental benefits but also for its performance. Its durability and quality have been verified through tests conducted by international independent organizations such as Intertek and SGS.

Oleatex contains up to 90% (DIN 91%, USDA 67%) bio-based content. No harmful solvents or toxic chemicals are used in its production. Since the process requires no water, it directly contributes to the conservation of water resources. Developed as 100% vegan, this material is certified by international organizations such as PETA, V-Label, and OEKO-TEX.

Thanks to its local production model, the supply chain operates within a 100 km radius, minimizing emissions from logistics. According to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies conducted by leading accredited consultancy firms, Oleatex has a carbon footprint approximately 11 times lower than cow leather and twice as low as the lowest-emission faux leather on the market.

Oleatex contributes to 11 of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 13 (Climate Action). With these attributes, it stands out not only as an innovative material but also as a responsible production model.

Lignify®

Lignify Logo

Lignify is derived from lignin, the natural polymer found in plants. Transforming millions of tons of lignin waste generated annually into a high-value resource makes a significant contribution to both the circular economy and environmental sustainability. At the same time, its cellulose-free structure provides low water absorption, UV resistance, and antibacterial properties, making it a long-lasting and durable alternative.

Independent laboratory tests confirm that Lignify contains 35% bio-based carbon. Its animal-free production is certified by PETA. Developed without the use of DMF (Dimethylformamide), Lignify is produced with water-based formulations instead of harmful solvents. Its backing fabric incorporates GRS-certified recycled material.

Lignify’s localized supply model sources components within a 350 km radius, reducing logistics-related emissions. The production process is powered entirely by I-REC certified renewable energy sources.

Certified with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, Lignify demonstrates compliance with environmental and corporate standards. By participating in the USDA BioPreferred® Program, it also establishes its international credibility.

Packaging
___

Our guiding principle in packaging production is to avoid harming forest ecosystems. For paper and cotton fibers, we prioritize certified sustainable alternatives, while designing shipping solutions that minimize environmental impact.

Our product boxes are made from recyclable cardboard, covered with either kraft paper or a blend of 40% FSC-certified recycled paper and 15% cotton. We give priority to papers made using 100% green energy.

Our shipping packages are made from recyclable cardboard and FSC-certified paper, eliminating the need for single-use plastics in delivering our products to you.

Craftsmanship and Local Production

Craftsmanship and Local Production
___

We create all our products in a workshop in Istanbul that has been operating for three generations and is specialized in handmade leather craftsmanship. This allows us to offer products enriched with the care and durability of traditional craftsmanship, ensuring they can accompany you for many years. Handcrafted production not only extends product life and reduces waste but also consumes less energy and helps preserve artisanal skills.

We source the majority of our materials from local producers, ensuring that the carbon emissions generated during production remain at a minimum.

Continuous Improvement
___

We believe sustainability is not a destination but a journey, and we see continuous improvement as our priority.

Our pursuit of fashion shaped by the well-being of the planet, society, and animals will never end. By closely following material technologies, environmental standards, and ethical production practices, we will continue to unite style and sustainability. Today and always, we will keep using next-generation materials, offer handcrafted products, and share our environmental impact with full transparency.
